How to Establish a Baby Sleeping Routine
It is common for all newborn babies to have unusual sleeping patterns. Most of them tend to sleep in the daytime and keep awake throughout the night. As the womb is completely dark, a baby cannot differentiate between night and day. If you wish to form a good and proper baby sleeping routine then these tips will surely help you.
Continue Your Normal Routine
Usually new moms try to maintain silence while the baby sleeps during the day. But this needs to be changed. Try to follow a normal routine while the baby sleeps at daytime. Keep the television on and do not try to keep the room very silent. This will serve two purposes. One is that the baby will learn to sleep even when the room is noisy. Second, the baby will begin to understand that the daytime is not conducive for long sleep hours and will keep awake. This will help the baby to formulate a pattern of sleeping at night.
Limit Your Baby’s Daytime Nap
In case the baby naps for more than three hours then make sure that you wake him up. It is important to let babies sleep for a while during the day, but not more than three hours at a stretch. If you wish to wake your baby up then hold him upright and slowly tickle his feet. If the baby is still sleeping then try removing his shirt. The cool breeze is sure to wake him up. However, make sure that the baby does not remain uncovered for very long. Try to keep the baby entertained by singing to him or talking to him for awhile. You can also put the baby on a mat and watch him or her move their limbs for a while.
The next issue you need to tackle is that of the baby’s frequent nighttime awakenings. This is going to be a bit tough to resolve, but within a few weeks you will notice some changes. You may still have to wake up for midnight feedings, but the frequency will reduce with the passage of time by limiting how long your baby sleeps during the day.
Guidelines to Develop Baby’s Sleeping Routine Day or Night
• Place the baby in a bassinet or a cradle for the initial weeks. A crib may seem to be very big for a new born baby. If you give it a cozy place then the baby is likely to sleep better. If you happen to have a colicky infant, wrapping them in baby swaddle wrap, may soothe and relax to allow him or her to fall asleep peacefully.
• Try to make some soothing sounds. This will help to block out the other sounds and the slow rhythm is sure to lull him to sleep. You can also play some soft classical music and see if it works. Some babies are known to sleep listening to the steady hum of a fan.
• Ensure that the room is comfortable and neither too warm nor too cold. If the room is comfortable then the baby is sure to sleep well.
• Formulate a regular sleeping pattern. If you formulate a regular sleeping pattern, then the baby is sure to be trained well. Have fixed times for daytime naps and nightime sleeping every day and follow this routine. Try to instill good bedtime habits which trigger signals to the baby that it is time to sleep now. A soothing bath or a story is ideal to relax and nod off to sleep.
Most new moms try to develop a proper baby sleeping routine but sadly, most start off on a wrong note by trying to keep the baby awake throughout the day hoping that he or she will sleep at night. A baby needs naps at regular intervals. Avoid letting the baby sleep for more than three hours at a stretch. Never go overboard in your attempts and ensure that you too get sufficient rest. As time passes by, you will succeed in making the baby sleep throughout the night. Very soon you too will enjoy uninterrupted sleep for the whole night.
6 Tips To Managing Fatigue After Child Birth
Managing fatigue is an essential strategy for mothers who have recently given birth, no matter how many children they have. Child birth is extremely taxing on your body, thus, your body needs ample time to recoup after an exhausting delivery. In addition, your newborn is likely to keep you awake throughout the night for feedings and diaper changes. Listed below are 6 tips to help you manage fatigue and help you to “sail” through the initial weeks of postpartum. These tips will assist you in managing fatigue to lessen the feeling of exhaustion and becoming overwhelmed:
1. Skip Unimportant Tasks
Skip tasks that are not essential to the immediate needs of your baby. Be prepared to give up some control of how chores around the house or errands are completed by other family members. If your significant other doesn’t load the dishwasher in the most efficient manner, don’t nag. Just check the dish before you use it! Additionally, you may think about hiring a maid. On your next baby shower gift registry, add a local maid service gift certificate to it for a friend or family member to purchase. Avoid trying to manage everything as this will surely to take a toll on your health.
2. Relax A Bit
Keep a fixed time for visitors and phone calls. Do not entertain visitors if they drop in at a time which is inconvenient. Be blunt if necessary. Perhaps you could offer a time for them to return that is more convenient.
People often tell you to sleep while your baby is sleeping. However, many moms feel this is the time to be cleaning up or making various preparations. STOP! Remember to RELAX! It is a good idea to lie down even if you do not actually plan on sleeping – you never know what might happen if you do!
3. Seek assistance
A helping hand during the initial weeks after your baby is home is a great boon. If your significant other can take some weeks off or work from home, the workload gets divided. If this is not possible, seek help from your family members and friends who would be willing to extend themselves to help you settle down. You can also hire a mother’s helper to accompany you and baby when you go for post delivery doctor appointments, grocery shopping, etc.
4. Freshen Up By Getting Dressed
This may seem really surprising as you may not have any energy left and you may wish to simply languish in bed. But it is proven that if you freshen up in the morning and dress as you would normally do then your energy levels and mood will liven up to help you will feel more at ease.
5. Have a Proper Meal
A healthy diet will really help you with managing fatigue. You may be too tired and thus neglect your meals, but this is not the right approach. If you eat well then you will surely be able to regain your lost energy. Ensure that you are sufficiently hydrated by consuming a lot of fluids to avoid swelling. Make sure your diet is well balanced with plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially, if you are breastfeeding.
6. Managing Fatigue to Enjoy Your New Baby
Time simply flies after the birth of a baby. So enjoy the moments while you can. Take some time off to relax and bond with your baby. Give your body time to heal and do not miss out on small joys in a rush to get back to your normal routine.
These tips are just a few ideas about managing fatigue after giving birth.

What Is A Diaper Bag?
Have you ever wondered what a diaper bag truly is? Well it’s obvious that it is a special bag that moms and dads use to hold essential baby items to enable them to take care of their baby’s needs. Most bag styles provide plenty of space for a wide range of baby accessories such as, diapers, toys, medicines, pacifiers, baby clothing, snacks, etc. Furthermore, diaper bags are an important baby item for busy parents and is an equally indispensable part of parenthood during the infant and toddler years.
The Evolution of the Diaper Bag
During recent years, diaper bags have evolved to compliment the personal style and fashion flair of parents while keeping functionality the essence of the bag’s design. Modern diaper bags are represented in a variety of styles and color hues to compliment Mom or Dad’s personal fashion sense and their lifestyle. You will find diaper bags made to fit cameras to appeal to the mom who loves to carry her favorite camera around to capture all those precious moments with her baby. Or for the mom who wants some style to her bag preferring a chic diaper bag that resembles a designer purse to avoid having to carry both a purse and diaper bag. While created primarily for convenience, most modern bags are a splendid blend of practical design and fashion to provide extreme function and modern style.
Traditional diaper bags are still on the market today but are large, bulky totes that are made out of plastic vinyl (to appear leak-proof), and may feature one huge zippered opening with several smaller pockets on the outside. They are definitely old-fashioned and highly unattractive (read my story!). Usually, these type of baby bags will need to be replaced within the first 6 months to a year of use due to the low quality of the design and fabric.
However, modern diaper bags are made from top quality fabrics such as canvas, genuine leather, faux leather, microfiber, organic or recycled materials. Modern diaper bags have upgraded features to enhance their functionality such as plenty of interior and exterior pockets, a small clutch bag for mom, mobile device pockets, key ring, stroller straps, pacifier holders and other wonderful surprises that make each bag unique.
Diaper Bag Buying Tips
When choosing a diaper bag, remember these buying tips:
- Choose a diaper bag based on your lifestyle. If you are constantly on the go search for bags that are made of sturdy, long lasting materials that can within use and abuse.
- Investigate the price ranges for the diaper bags that meet your lifestyle requirements. Sometimes a cheaply priced bag will end up costing you more in the long term as opposed to “splurging” for the more expensive bag up front. A quality made bag may last through the infant and toddler years as well as for additional children you may have. This should be considered when choosing a quality bag.
- Choose a diaper bag that fits your sense of fashion and style! This definitely puts you in the market for designer diaper bag since these bags are designed by parents who wanted more from their baby’s bag.
There is no doubt that a diaper bag is a very necessary item for taking care of a baby’s needs while away from home. They aid parents’ ability to go where they need to with their child while being able to provide for their child’s needs. On the other hand, the diaper bag is also an accessory of the Mom or Dad, who will be carrying it around for the next two or more years for more than one child. Make sure that the diaper bag you choose to carry suits your lifestyle needs, fashion sense and is a quality product that will last for long while.
