‘Operation Baby Shower’ Prepares Military Wives for Motherhood
What do you do when you find out that someone you know is pregnant? First and foremost, you find out when the baby is due and if the Mom or Dad knows what sex the baby is going to be. Then you either become the baby shower planner or an attendee. How exciting for everyone, right?
Now, have you ever wondered what it may be like for a military wife to find out that she is expecting? Her husband may be absent due to his military duties and friends and family may be miles away in another state. Sure, she can always share the good news and pregnancy progress notes via phone, text, email and social media. But how does she celebrate her pending birth if all of her loved ones are scattered throughout the country?
Enter Facebook. I was sent a private message via my Facebook Fan Page from ‘Operation Baby Shower’ asking for donations for baby shower items for eight military moms with seven expecting and one mom having just given birth recently. I interviewed Farrah Brown, the creator and baby shower coordinator for Operation Baby Shower, to find out more about her charitable deed and to find out how my company could assist with such an awesome occasion.
What is Operation Baby Shower all about?
Giving back to the men and woman who serve our country. I couldn’t let the mothers go without having a shower just because they are thousand of miles away from friends and family. And since they’re all pregnant together, it made perfect sense to have a big group shower for all the mothers and shower these deserving woman with things they can use.
How many moms does this encompass?
7
When will the baby shower occur? Is it a surprise?
The baby shower will be held March 9, 2013. I wanted to do it in May to have lots of times to get everything but we found out we will be losing a soldier for relocation and I want everyone involved. For companies that want to donate and can not make the deadline I will also be making the mothers hospital gift baskets to take them to the hospital. I will be accepting donations for that until July.
The mothers know they’re having a shower but they have no idea just how much they’re getting and how many kind businesses participated to make it happen.
How are you collecting shower donations?
I have been contacting companies and telling them about the shower and theyre sending me the items. I’m making up gift baskets with little items and wrapping the big ones.
